Tokyo’s winter gives way to ‘Sakura’ season each spring, with cherry blossoms and hanami parties scattered across every park and corner of the city. Culturally, people celebrate sakura not only for its beauty but as a reminder of how fragile and short life (‘seikatsu’) can be. The cherry blossoms are in spring for only a week or two and one day of strong winds can bring the whole thing to an end quite quickly. For the Japanese, this represents how precious life can be, and is seen as the perfect time for people to get together, appreciate life and enjoy the world around them.

Awesome pictures. Makes me want to go check out the cherry blossom festival in Washington DC, since that is the closes I can get to.
